2009 Sequoia Auction

Raising cold, hard cash for Sequoia Elementary since 2005

Sale on our registry items February 13, 2009

If you’re still pondering the question, What on earth do I donate to the auction this year?!” you can easily select an item from our online registries at Macy’s and Crate & Barrel. We just checked both registries this morning, and many great items are now ON SALE at Macy’s so it’s even less expensive to buy and donate a cool item that we can auction off!  Here’s how to view what our wish list:

At the prompt type in “Sequoia Elementary” for first name, and “School” for last name. Anyone can donate from our registries: extended family, grandparents, out-of-town supporters … let everyone know!

Raffle Packets Going Home this Week

Check your oldest child’s backpack this week for the February auction newsletter and info on our all-new RAFFLES!  We have three great raffles this year, and all parents are encouraged to buy and sell raffle tickets before the auction. Your packet includes raffle tickets to sell. Here are our raffle prizes:

One week in Mazatlan, Mexico! Sand, beautiful sunsets and the historic town of Mazatlan await you at the Oceanfront Inn. ($10 per ticket)

Instant wine cellar! More than 50 bottles of wine will go home with the lucky winner on auction night. Wine has been donated by area businesses and by many generous Sequoia families. ($20 per ticket)

Wii gaming system! Take home a brand-new Wii, for fun and fitness with the whole family. ($5 per ticket)

The great thing about our raffles is that anyone can buy tickets and enter the drawings — neighbors, friends, co-workers, etc. — and you need not be present at the auction to win. Need more tickets? Call 609-9205.

So go forth this weekend … sell lots of raffle tickets and help support the school!

Donation of the day: Private tour of Pixar February 11, 2009

Filed under: Latest donations — KB @ 4:57 pm

One of our coolest donations last year was a private tour of Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville with one of their senior animators. Carl and Wenlan Ng won this tour last year in the live auction, and Wenlan had this to say about the experience:

“It was a very exciting experience for us.  We were “the visitors from the outside.” Bob was a great tour guide. Kids got to see the Pixar complex and were amazed by the whole environment.  They got to see lots of displays of different movies Pixar put out, some are a work in progress, ideas and original storyboards/art work.  I think they were inspired about the prospect to work at somewhere that could be fun!”

We’re excited to announce that Pixar has once again donated a private tour for four this year, including lunch in their Luxo Cafe! You and your family will tour Pixar with Bob Whitehill, who is now Pixar’s stereographer (that’s industry lingo for “head of 3D animation”). Bob will show you original character and scene concepts for films like Wall-E and Cars, as well as the fabulous Pixar in-house movie theater and art gallery. It’s a wonderful tour for the whole family.

This donation will be up for bid as part of our Live Auction on Saturday, March 28 … don’t let it get away! Check out the Ngs’ photos from their tour:

Hey, all you single ladies — we’re setting aside a couple of “singles” tables for those of you who are coming “spouse-free” to support Sequoia and have a fun night at the Auction with friends. Seating is open for the other tables; however, if you notify us that you want to be seated at a singles table, we will reserve your spot! Email booth_doorlay@yahoo.com.

This week’s updates … from the Auction Team January 26, 2009

IN TODAY’S BLOG: another Wine Donation Station scheduled for this Friday, Jan. 30 … how and when to donate … auction survey … how to buy your tickets … photos from last year’s auction

Wine Donation Station #2 — this Friday, Jan. 30

We’re trying it again, folks! A wet and dreary day made for a less-than-spectacular turnout for last Friday’s donation station, so we’re setting it up again this Friday. Same location: the corner of Liahona Ct. and Boyd Rd. just past the creek and adjacent to campus.

Here’s what we would like donated: wine (no boxed or jug wines, please … or two-buck Chuck, either) of any variety — chardonnay, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir, etc.  We’ll also gladly accept champagne, dessert wine, port and anything else you have on hand. We’re building an “instant wine cellar” that will be raffled off on Auction night.

We would also like your unused gift cards and any other donations you have — bring ’em by!

Many thanks to the parents who dropped their donations by last Friday: Ursula Hawe, Laurie Taul, Adam Warda, Karen Gottschalk, Dick Barkelew, Elisabeth Lucio, Heather Gowdy, Cathy Chang, and Jill Newquist.

Donations, donations, donations

Please donate now to avoid a begging phone call from our donations team! We’ve put out lots of info about what makes a good donation — check the Auction newsletter that went home in backpacks last week if you’re unsure. Or call us to chat about it — we’re always available. Also, some parents have asked if they can only donate on the days we hold a Donation Station … we are accepting donations anytime, anywhere.

Here’s what you have to look forward to …

Check out these photos from last year’s Auction. It was a really fun evening, and all proceeds went right back to Sequoia to buy classroom supplies, books, and help support SPA programs such as field trips, art appreciation, classroom grants and much more.

Check back soon for photos of new donations we’re getting in …  Enjoy!
